SEMINOLE ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND SUPERINTENDENT ATTEND TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARD’S SUMMER LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
Effort Geared Toward Upcoming School Year Initiatives
(SEMINOLE, TX, JULY 16, 2018) – Seminole ISD’s Board of Trustee’s and Superintendent, also known as the collective Team of 8, attended the Texas Association of School Board’s Summer Institute (TASB). The conference provides professional collaboration along with a variety of training sessions designed to meet the specific needs of a school district. Sessions titled “Meet the Kids, the Culture, and the School Where They Are”, “Recruiting and Retaining Quality Teachers”, and “School Safety: What Next?”. were just a few of the topics covered. In addition, keynote speaker, Steve Gilliland was in attendance and discussed the importance of staying positive in a fast-paced and stress-filled school atmosphere with so many expectations and requirements.
“The trainings allowed me to see that some of the things we have been working on as a board with administrative staff are the things we need to be doing,” stated Shane Wimmer, SISD Board President. “Some of those items include adding more technical programs and a career counselor to focus on post graduation enrollment for our students (2 year, 4 year college and technical programs) – these are some of the points used in grading our schools on the A-F accountability ratings.”
The Team of 8 understands the crucial responsibility of providing the best education possible. It is through continuing education that the board may continue to evolve, adopt and communicate the district’s policies, visions, and goals to the community. The members feel it is vital to communicate why the necessary changes are taking place and why they are making some of the decisions as a board and school.
Chad Rosalez, one of three new board members who attended the accountability trainings and new board member academy, felt the educational ideas would be positively received by the employees and students of Seminole. Rosalez is confident the ideas would promote the school district as a leader in curriculum and technology.
“I also got to be a part of a safety class and learn the vast amount of ideas that other schools have implemented and some of these ideas would be perfect in the protection of our kids and employees”, stated Rosalez.
The August board meeting will take place on August 13th at 7pm. Members of the community are welcome to attend the open session.
The Board of Trustee’s include Shane Wimmer, Rex Darby, Mike Carter, David Stone, Chad Rosalez, Ben Royston and Janelle Sullivan; and Superintendent of Seminole ISD, Gary Laramore.
