Addison Armstrong wins creative writing contest

The Seminole Elementary Gifted and Talented students submitted stories to the Scary Stories Contest, a world-wide competition.

This year there were 55 contestants in the 4th- 6th grade category; including students from Canada, New York, and Texas. Of those 55, Seminole Elementary had 9 finalists and the overall winner, 5th grader, Addison Armstrong.

Comments from the Director of Operations for Scary Stories Contest, Nick Miller, complimented Armstrong on her mastery of mechanics, grammar, sentence fluency, and engagement. He went on to state that the story was so well designed and provided vivid detail and helped create a mental movie of the story playing out. Miller stated, "...you managed to do something we've never seen before -- personify a mirror."

Becky Peters, Gifted and Talented Coordinator, stated, "I am incredibly impressed with Addison. She truly is an exceptional student and we are thrilled to see her receive this honor."

One of the criteria was that all submissions had to be solely the work of the student. Therefore, they were not allowed to seek the help of their teachers or parents.

Armstrong was recognized by her campus and awarded a $25 prize from the Scary Stories Competition, along with a gift basket from Seminole Elementary.
